Exceptional oral care starts with what things are made of. We build our products from specific, purposeful materials — bamboo, wheat straw, plant-based bristles — and formulate our toothpaste around hydroxyapatite, the mineral your enamel is made of. This page explains exactly what goes into booheads products, and what we leave out.
Materials
What our brushes and heads are made from, and why.
Bamboo
The body of our Soniboo heads and manual toothbrush handles. Bamboo is naturally light, dense and strong — ideal for daily brushing — and grows back quickly after harvest. Paired with a cornstarch PLA core in our electric heads.
Wheat Straw
The stalk left over after grain harvest, blended with biodegradable PLA to form the body of our Sonibio and Oraboo heads. Strong enough for months of electric brushing, made largely from plants — and a second life for material that would otherwise go to waste.
Castor Oil Bristles
Our bristles blend nylon with castor-oil-derived plant material. You get the cleaning performance and durability of a conventional bristle with a materially higher plant content.
FSC Paper & Water-Based Inks
Our packaging uses FSC-certified paper and water-based inks wherever possible — clean to print, simple to recycle, and honest about what it is.
Toothpaste ingredients
The actives and supporting ingredients in our fluoride-free hydroxyapatite toothpaste.
Hydroxyapatite
The mineral that makes up roughly 97% of tooth enamel. In toothpaste it bonds to the tooth surface, helping remineralise weak spots, smooth microscopic rough patches and reduce sensitivity — the most studied fluoride-free active in oral care.
Hydrated Silica & Sodium Bicarbonate
Hydrated silica polishes away daily surface stains without harsh abrasion, while sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) helps balance oral pH and adds mild whitening.
Spearmint Oil, Menthol & Menthyl Lactate
Natural spearmint oil with menthol and menthyl lactate delivers a clean, cool taste with lasting freshness — smooth rather than harsh.
Mild Plant Cleansers
Cocamidopropyl betaine and decyl glucoside — mild, plant-derived cleansers that foam and clean effectively without SLS.
Coconut Oil & Dandelion Extract
Coconut oil adds gentle soothing benefits and dandelion extract offers natural soothing properties — quiet supporting players in a clean formula.
Texture & Stability
Sorbitol and glycerin keep the paste smooth; xanthan gum and cellulose hold it together; stevioside sweetens naturally; sodium phytate and tetrasodium pyrophosphate help reduce tartar build-up.
